Design Notes:

This poster was created for the 2018 Utah Coalition for Educational Technology conference that is hosted at the University of Utah.  The theme of the conference is "you," meaning this year the human factor in educational technology will be celebrated and discussed. I decided that I would not only include the word "YOU" in the advertisement, I wanted to showcase a few influential figures in education.  From left to upper right I included Dr. Carl Sagan, former professor of Astronomy at Cornell University, Maya Angelou, former professor at Wake Forest University, and Jaime Escalante, former high school teacher and recipient of Presidential Medal for Excellence in Education, which was awarded to him by President Ronald Reagan.

Design and Development:

I started out in Adobe Photoshop with a blank 11x17 canvas at 300 DPI. In order to create a sense of balance, not only with space, but with color, as well I cut the image in half diagonally with a red solid on one side and blank white on the other side.  To fill the remaining blank white space I added red stripes.  I then took the UCET logo and displayed it prominently at the top of the poster so that it could be seen and read from a distance. I used the same reasoning for the rest of the text, it is designed to have enough contrast and size to be understood clearly from a distance. 

Finally, I added three blank, white boxes and imported three images of the aforementioned innovators of education.  The images were scaled and cropped to fit inside of the blank boxes in order to create the appearance of a photograph.  Each "photograph" was then used as a placeholder for the letters "Y," "O," and "U," signifying the theme of this year's conference.
